Day Sponsors LEED Certification for 2009 Flower City Habitat for Humanity House

Flower City Habitat for Humanity Rochester, NY

About the House

In 2006 the American Institute of Architects Rochester Chapter and the American Council of Engineering Companies collaborated in the funding and construction of a Rochester, NY city residence in cooperation with Flower City Habitat for Humanity.

In 2009, the two organizations plan to construct a second house. The house will be a one story, three bedroom wood framed building with a full basement. The design for the house has been completed and fundraising efforts are underway. The project will be funded with donations from engineering and architecture firms in the greater Rochester area along with personal contributions of individual design professionals. The construction of the house will be accomplished largely with volunteer workers from the design teams under the supervision of Habitat's professional construction superintendents. The house will be LEED certified, and Day Automation will be sponsoring the certification.

About LEED Certification

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This is a program run by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC)to encourage the implementation of sustainable design concepts in building design, operation and maintenance. The house is planned to meet the requirements of the NYS Energy Star program as well as the USGBC LEED certification program. The result will be a building constructed using sustainable materials.

When the house is completed and receives LEED Certification, it will be the first Habitat house in Upstate New York to receive this level of recognition.
